Urban Meyer Reacts To Oklahoma’s Big Win vs. Texas

Urban Meyer has quickly become one of college football’s most-popular analysts. Given his track-record of success with Ohio State, Florida and Utah, he knows what he’s talking about in regards to national championship contenders.

After watching Oklahoma dismantle Texas in a 34-27 win on Saturday, Meyer thinks the Sooners have what it takes to win it all.

“They were relentless today,” Meyer said on the Fox Sports post-game show after the game, per 247Sports. “They are a legitimate national title contender now. They’re a top four team. And not because of offense — you knew they had an offense — but because of that defense.”

Meyer makes a good point. Oklahoma has had one of the best offenses in the nation for several years now. But the Sooners defense has been mediocre at best.

Is this the most complete team Oklahoma has had in some time?

Sooners fan can thank Lincoln Riley for making a much-needed change at defensive coordinator. Alex Grinch is leading the defense to new heights.

“Coach Riley, they had to make a change, and they did,” Meyer said. “And they made a drastic change, they brought in Alex Grinch, a guy I know very well. A high energy guy, he expects a premium placed on effort and that’s what you saw.”

Oklahoma will continue to be tested this season. But if the Sooners continue to play like they did on Saturday, they’ll be on their way back to the College Football Playoff.
