A high school football player has tragically died after collapsing during practice on Tuesday, police have confirmed.
CNN reports that Hezekiah Walters, 14, has died after collapsing during practice drills on Tuesday afternoon at roughly 4 p.m. E.T.
Walters reportedly collapsed roughly 30 minutes into practice.
“Walters collapsed around 30 minutes into an outdoor practice at the school’s football field that included weightlifting and wind sprints. Coaches immediately called 911 when they saw he collapsed,” CNN said.
Walters was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“We are devastated by the death of one of our students,” Tanya Arja, a spokesperson for the county’s public schools, said. “This student was an amazing young man who was loved by his friends, teachers and staff at school.”

A specific cause of death has yet to be announced.
CNN reports that heat strokes and exertion-related heart attacks caused nine out of 13 football-related deaths in 2017.
