Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green is looking forward to playing with D’Angelo Russell, Willie Cauley-Stein and Kevon Looney next season.
Russell and Cauley-Stein are the newcomers on the Warriors, while Looney has been in Golden State for the past four years. Green says Russell, Cauley-Stein and Looney are “coming in with something to prove.”
“D’Angelo coming in with something to prove,” Green told Rachel Nichols of ESPN. “Willie Cauley-Stein coming in with something to prove. We got a bunch of young guys coming in, trying to show their worth in the league. We got (Kevon Looney) coming back, who — shout out to Loon for signing him a nice contract but who, you know, a lotta people feel should’ve gotten more. He comes back with something to prove.”
The Warriors acquired Russell from the Brooklyn Nets in the Kevin Durant sign-and-trade deal. The lefty averaged 21.1 points and 7.0 assists last season in Brooklyn and made his first All-Star team.
Cauley-Stein signed a two-year, $4.46 million contract with the Warriors in free agency after spending the first four years of his career with the Sacramento Kings. All signs point toward Cauley-Stein being Golden State’s starting center next season.
Looney drew a lot of interest on the open market this summer, but he decided to re-sign with the Warriors on a three-year, $15 million contract. For the Dubs to clinch a high playoff seed next season, they will need Russell, Cauley-Stein and Looney to play at a high-level on a nightly basis.
