Chiefs officially announce date for Mexico City game vs. Chargers

🇲🇽

The Chiefs didn’t wait until this evening to announce the official date for their international game.

It was previously announced that the Chiefs would be heading back to Mexico City to play the Chargers, but now we know when the international showdown will occur.

The Chiefs will play the Chargers in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca on November 18 at 7:15 p.m. CT for Monday Night Football. November 18 falls during Week 11 of the NFL season, and the NFL typically schedules a bye week for teams following a week of international travel. That means you can expect the Chiefs to have Week 12 off in 2019.

You won’t find the Chiefs complaining about their bye week being late either. It’s typically better to have a late bye week because it allows you to get rested and healthy for the final stretch of the season.

Hopefully this time the NFL and Estadio Azteca stadium officials have a satisfactory plan to manage the field conditions ahead of the game. That was the big concern that led to a change of venue between the Chiefs and the Rams in 2018. A concert previously held at the venue made the playing surface entirely untenable for a football game. They were unable to lay down sod and get the surface ready in such a short time.

Currently the closest scheduled event to the Chiefs vs. Chargers game is an October 3 soccer match between Liga MX’s CF America and Leon.
