Australian NBL interested in James Wiseman if deemed ineligible for Memphis

The coming NBA Draft class is looking to be an exciting one with multiple big names coming in next season. The NBL has been the home of two of those top picks and may become the latest destination of NBA prospect James Wiseman.

The Memphis freshman was deemed ineligible by the NCAA. Tigers Head coach Penny Hardaway is reportedly involved in moving the big man to Memphis. The team has issued a temporary restraining order that will allow the rookie to play for them, but the investigation has surely put a dent on his brand this season.

The NBL took the opportunity presented and offered themselves as a potential destination for the rookie to polish his game before the draft.

James Zagoria of Forbes reported the league’s interest in having him over but does admit that his legal situation is a complicated one. NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger had this to say about Wiseman:

“Potentially, but it hasn’t even been a discussion yet. These decisions require a lot of due diligence on both sides to ensure it’s in everyone’s best interests. He’s exceptionally talented and of course we’d be interested, but honestly we haven’t even had a conversation with him or his family. I have no idea yet as to whether or not it would suit his plans, his personality or his aspirations.”

It will be quite a jump for Wiseman, but he won’t be alone there. LaMelo Ball and RJ Hampton are already showing off Down Under, and they’ve showcased their wares in front of many NBA scouts.

Wiseman has already played a game for Memphis, posting an incredible 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks in only 22 minutes of action. He’s reportedly considering suing the NCAA for putting a halt to his collegiate career.
