5-Star QB DJ Uiagalelei Could Play 2 Sports At Clemson

DJ Uiagalelei is a top quarterback in the Class of 2020 and one of the crown jewels of Clemson’s potentially historic recruiting class. But it would appear that Uiagalelei isn’t only interested in playing football for the Tigers.

Speaking to Yahoo! Sports this week, Uiagalelei revealed that he intends to pursue baseball at Clemson as well. He explained that he’s on track to graduate early from St. John Bosco and join Clemson for spring baseball.

“I’m going to graduate early,” he said. “That’s the plan right now. Unless something changes with the MLB Draft or something like that. I’m on track to graduate early.

“Right now, the thing is that I’ll most likely play spring baseball [at Clemson] instead of my senior year. I still don’t know. It might change, but that’d be the plan. I would do both [sports at Clemson].”

Per the report, Uiagalelei can throw a 95 mph fast ball and has major league potential. He has played several high school baseball games as a pitcher and would ideally be a relief pitcher for the baseball team.

“It would be a dream to be a relief pitcher,” he said. “You only have to come in and throw an inning. You get paid to throw one inning a night. You don’t have to save energy. You can go all out.”

247Sports rates Uiagalelei as the No. 13 overall prospect in the country. He is the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the nation, and the No. 2 prospect from the state of California.

He gave his commitment to Clemson back in May.

As of writing, Clemson has an incredible five 5-star prospects committed in 2020 – more than any two other colleges combined.

Though Clemson football fans may be nervous at the idea of a star quarterback putting focus on any sport other than football, Uiagalelei has demonstrated that he has more than enough talent to thrive as Trevor Lawrence’s potential successor.
