White House campaign of United States presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg used prison work, a report reveals

Washington: The billionaire presidential candidate of the United States, Michael Bloomberg, used prison labor to make calls for his campaign, the Intercept research website said Tuesday.

Bloomberg called the report “fundamentally accurate” and said his campaign had already ended his relationship with the company involved.

The Intercept reported that the campaign of the former mayor of New York hired, through an external provider, the ProCom call center company based in New Jersey.

ProCom manages call centers in New Jersey and Oklahoma, where two of its operations centers operate from state jails, The Intercept said.

According to the report, in at least one of those Oklahoma prisons, a center for women with minimal security, inmates were hired to make calls on behalf of the Bloomberg campaign.

Bloomberg said his campaign only found out about this situation when the story journalist called them.

“But as soon as we found out which supplier subcontractor had done this, we immediately terminated our relationship with the company and the people who hired them,” he said in a statement.

“We do not support this practice and we are making sure that our suppliers examine their subcontractors more adequately in the future.”

Months after leaders Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, Bloomberg announced at the end of November his candidacy for the nomination of the Democratic Party to challenge Donald Trump in the presidential elections next year.

Bloomberg has a net worth of more than $ 54 billion, according to Forbes.

He is using that personal fortune to spend a lot on online and television advertising campaigns, and his campaign is skipping crucial states that have long worked with less well-off rivals.

The Intercept said he asked Stephen McQuaid, director of commercial development at ProCom, if the company had worked for Bloomberg.

“To my knowledge, we are not, and I have not heard that we were making markings for the Bloomberg campaign or on their behalf through another person, nor have I heard that we are currently doing them, but I am not in a position to know every campaign that is being carried out, “he said.
