Here’s a sampling of government offices and other services that are closed for New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.
Banks: Banks and financial markets are closed.

Schools: Closed.
Transit: Buses and subway services in Los Angeles run on a holiday/Sunday schedule (www.metro.net). Metrolink’s Ventura County Line trains do not run. The Antelope Valley line runs on a Sunday schedule (www.metrolinktrains.com).
Trash: No trash is picked up in Los Angeles (www.lacitysan.org) and Glendale (bit.ly/2K75TY8). Wednesday’s trash is picked up on Thursday, Thursday’s trash is picked up on Friday and Friday’s trash is picked up on Saturday. Trash is picked up on a regular schedule in Burbank (bit.ly/2PN6qjR).
