San Jose police are investigating the death of a man who was found unconscious in the street early Christmas morning, after apparently being hit by a car.

On December 25 at 2:16 a.m., police responded to an alarm call at the 1200 block of E. Santa Clara Street. Officers were flagged down to respond to an unconscious man who was lying in the street and potentially struck by a car, according to a statement from San Jose Police Sgt. Enrique Garcia.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators have ruled out a traffic collision as the cause of the man’s death and are treating the incident as a homicide, according to Garcia, who said no suspects have been identified and the motive and circumstances are still under investigation.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office, after the victim’s identity is confirmed and their family is notified.

The is the city’s 33rd homicide this year.
