Oakland: Fatal vehicle collision on Park Street Bridge under investigation

OAKLAND — Traffic investigators are looking into the circumstances of a fatal head-on collision Wednesday morning on the Park Street Bridge, authorities said.

According to police, an Acura MDX was driving northbound on 29th Street into Oakland when a Hyundai Accent driving southbound toward Alameda crossed the roadway’s double-yellow line and struck the Acura.

The Hyundai’s driver was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office identified him Wednesday as Malcolm Darensburg, 41, of Oakland.

The Acura’s driver, identified only as a 62-year-old woman, and an 87-year-old woman passenger were taken to an area hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.

Investigators had no preliminary information about alcohol or substances as accident factors. All lanes on the bridge reopened by  2 p.m., Alameda police said.
