On July 24, on one of the forums specializing in the sale of databases, files containing information about car owners from Moscow and the Moscow region were put up for sale. As reported KommersantIn total, cybercriminals are asking for this data for about $ 1500.
According to the publication, the files put up for sale contain the names of car owners, certificates of registration of their cars and vehicle numbers, state registration numbers. Its volume is about 1 million records.
According to the founder of DeviceLock, the seller of the database may be an insider in a large insurance company. According to him, the combination of the data presented in the files suggests that the database was originally created to sell insurance policies.
Pavel Myasoyedov, partner and director of the Intellectual Reserve company, believes that potential buyers of the database can be fraudsters who obtain information using psychological tricks. Hijackers can also use it. For example, the presence of a VIN allows you to get information about the alarm installed on the car.
