Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Manchester United are interested in Jadon Sancho, but it doesn’t seem likely that the Red Devils will get their hands on the 19-year-old prodigy anytime soon with the Germans determined to retain his services.

Sancho scored twice for England in the thrilling 5-3 win against Kosovo, underlining his reputation as the Three Lions’ most exciting young talent.

Rumours suggested that United were tailing the former Manchester City academy player and the gossip has been confirmed by the German club’s sporting director Michael Zorc.

On Amazon Prime’s recent Inside Borussia Dortmund documentary series, Zorc addresses the rumours linking the club’s star player with Old Trafford.

“A hot topic right now is Sancho and Manchester United,” he admits. “Both his discussions with the club and mine with the consultants.

“A meeting did take place. Manchester United invited the consultant. But according to what I know, the consultant told the club that no matter how much money they offer, we won’t let him go this summer.”

January bid

The Daily Mirror says that United’s failure to qualify for the Uefa Champions League was another important factor, one that convinced Sancho that his interests – for the future, at least – would be best served by remaining loyal to Dortmund, where he is guaranteed regular game time.

But it’s believed that United are still set on securing the services of Sancho and talkSPORT claimed recently that they will table a bid in the region of £100m in the January transfer window.
