Authorities identify woman killed in Santa Clara car crash

SANTA CLARA — A 25-year-old San Leandro woman killed in a car crash in Santa Clara early Monday morning has been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as Alyssa Funes.

The crash occurred just before 1:30 a.m. on Cabrillo Avenue at Fordham Drive. In a news release, Santa Clara police said a black Honda Fit was traveling eastbound at a “high rate of speed” when it collided with cars parked on the 3300 block of Cabrillo Avenue.

Funes and a 29-year-old San Leandro man were ejected from the Honda, according to police. They were rushed to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, where Funes was pronounced dead. The man was listed in critical condition as of Tuesday.

It was not immediately clear if Funes or the man was driving the car at the time of the crash.

On Tuesday, Funes’ relatives created a GoFundMe page to raise $20,000 to cover her funeral expenses. More than $11,500 had been raised as of late Wednesday night.

The page — www.gofundme.com/f/alyssafunes — describes Funes as a “beautiful spirit.”
